Dear readers, if you've missed me it's because I've been away, luxuriating in a fabulous birthday trip to Paris (aah, Paris....). When the taxi pulled up in front of our house to deliver us home from our travels, what a welcome we got! In the space of a mere week, it seemed that everything that had been flirting with the idea of coming up, turning green, setting buds, and blooming had gone into springtime hyperdrive!
The joy I felt as I took in all the progress, growth, and explosions of purple and green was more than "cool, the garden is coming in!" It was a feeling of rewarded faith - these plants survived the winter. Without my help--or even my presence--they knew when to reveal themselves and grow into their full beauty. And they were there to welcome me home.
Here's the riot of purple that is my front garden. The purple and pink flowers are groundcovers that I started years ago from single, tiny potted plants. The yarrow, that's ready to burst into its mustard-y glory, has yielded a second plant after a successful division. And the lilies of the valley--my birth flower!-- spread in their happily shaded spot every year.
The holly (every Holly should have one in her garden!) is setting new growth in this ethereal shade of sea green:
Out back in the vegetable patch, the peas are reaching for the stars, I mean the string-trellis that we rigged:
And the hanging lettuce planter.....
Is going to feed me tonight!
Your salad ball looks awesome!

Most excellent. Kathleen's tulips are going gangbusters right now, and in the veggie garden I'm starting to see some radishes and spinach work their magic. The beets aren't far behind, but we only have one lonely carrot breaking the surface. I'll have to wait a little longer before I can feast on any of our work - unless I want to eat some tulips...
