Alright, that's it. I can't wait another minute to start growing something. So I've decided to experiment with sprouts. Apparently you can make sprouts out of lentils, quinoa, wheat berries (that makes wheat grass), even oats (I don't think I'll try that one), all by following a fairly simple procedure.
I say that now, of course, not having tried it yet. I'll update you on my sprouting progress as I go along. If all goes well, I should have green shoot-y things in 3-4 days. Here's how I'm going to try it:
1. Select untreated seeds to sprout (2 T each of lentils, quinoa, and wheat berries will be my trial runs).
2. Place seeds in a Mason jar fitted with cheesecloth over the top. Cover with lukewarm water and soak overnight.
3. Strain and rinse seeds 2-3 times in fresh water. Set the container, covered with a tea towel, upside down in a dry place, so any remaining water drains off.
4. Rinse again twice a day for around 3 days, when sprouts will emerge. To green the sprouts, place the jars by the window for a few hours (really?!). Store sprouts in the refrigerator.
Thanks to Jeanne Sable for the guidelines!
