So I've decided that the winner in my sprout experiment (see the first two stages here and here) is the humble green lentil. Here's why:
The wheat berries are fickle. I skipped one (just one!) nighttime rinse-and-strain, and the next morning they were fuzzy with mold. I rinsed very well that day but the fuzz came back - and now the whole works is a big tangled mess of some random thick shoots together with fuzz and seed. Nope, not eating that:
The quinoa, which I won't show a picture of because it's both unremarkable and icky, barely sprouted 1/4 inch. Some of the sprouts turned red, which is weirding me out a little bit.
But the lentils. Oh, the lentils. How green and fresh they smell! And how green and almost leafy their tops are (how is that possible, given that they've been kept from the light by a dark-colored kitchen towel?). A couple more days, maybe an afternoon uncovered by the window, and these beauties are going into my dinner. Check 'em out:
The best part of this whole project has been the ability to grow something in February!
