Well, I'll be! I have official sproutage on all 3 seeds (quinoa, lentils, and wheat berries)! This weekend, I dutifully rinsed and drained the seeds every morning and evening before tucking their Mason jars back under a tea towel on top of my fridge to keep growing in peace.
The highlight moment was when I stuck my nose into the wheat jar and was rewarded with a surprisingly nutty-fresh fragrance. The lentil jar smells like the essence of the color green. I snuck a taste of a quinoa sprout, and even though quinoa isn't my favorite grain, and the sprout is super-tiny, it made me shiver with how it tasted like, I don't know....spring.
Next questions: how long do I grow them before I start eating them? Also, do I take off the seeds to eat the sprouts, or crunch the whole megillah?
The wheat berries have each put out 4 sprouts, and they look like they're reaching for soil. Hopefully I'm not committing some sort of whole-grain cruelty with this little experiment....
Thanks, Elaine, and welcome! The sprouting thing has been fun, let me know how your experimenting turns out!

Hello. I am so glad you decided to become part of the "Twitter thing" so I could discover you and your blog. I'm looking forward to digging into your food and gardening posts.
Good for you for sprouting these seeds. Now, I have quinoa but never sprouted it. I'd love a little taste of spring so I may try.
